Blog Tour: The Wedding Dress by Rachel Hauck

One dress. Four women. An amazing destiny.

Charlotte Malone is getting married. Yet all is not settled in the heart of Birmingham's chic bridal boutique owner. Charlotte can dress any bride to perfection-except herself. When she discovers a vintage mint-condition wedding gown in a battered old trunk, Charlotte embarks on a passionate journey to discover the women who wore the gown before her.

Emily in 1912. Mary in 1939. And Hillary in 1968. Each woman teaches Charlotte something about love in her own unique way. Woven within the threads of the beautiful hundred-year-old gown is the truth about Charlotte's heritage, the power of faith, and the beauty of finding true love.

This book was certainly different than from what I’d expected. I was pleasantly surprised by story.

What I enjoyed the most were the interconnected storylines spanning decades. That’s always a nice device to use to keep the reader really immersed in the story. The main character, Charlotte, is also a fun one. For some reason, maybe from the blurb, I expected her to be a weaker character, who kind of stumbled into this wedding dress and its meaning. But Charlotte is pretty active in her quest to find the truth. That makes for a fun heroine. The rest of the characters are not as interesting. They are a bit flatter, not as vibrant.

The plot is unique and, once I got past the first few, rather slow chapters, I was engrossed. It was hard to stop reading on to find out what exactly the wedding dress meant, and who really owned it. Once in a while, the book’s religious undertone would become a bit annoying, jarring the reader away from the plot into saying thinking, “yes, I know this is Christian fiction.” I would have preferred to have less of it.

For those of you who like Christian fiction, this is a nice one to pick up. It has all the elements the genre is known for and it is written in a nice, straight-forward way that will leave you satisfied.

I felt the same as you about this book, I enjoyed it but I would have enjoyed it more without the religious references. Great review!
