Booking Through Thursday

Any reading resolutions for the new year? Reading more? (Reading less?) Reading better books? Bigger books? More series? More relaxing books?
And hey, feel free to talk about any other resolutions you might have, too … or why you choose NOT to have any.

I don't really have any reading resolutions. I usually read everything and anything I want throughout the year.
But I did make another kind of resolution this year. As some of you might know from previous posts, I suffer from severe depression, which, as you can imagine makes living, just breathing and doing the basic things, close to impossible. So when the countdown started last Monday to welcome in a new year, one that could hold days and days of depression, I made a pact with myself. I'd deal with the bad days, knowing them for what they are: just bad days. And hold hope close to my chest that the good days are on their way.

Hope I didn't bum any of you, but I felt the need to share, and if any of you can send kind thoughts my way, I'd very much appreciate it. Every little bit helps!

I think that looking at your bad days as simply bad days is a fantastic thing to do. They're simply bad days, it's not a bad life. I appreciate your honesty in sharing with us. As one who has struggled myself with some depression and who has friends and family who have, as hard as it is to admit it to people, it helps when others understand.

I love your answer. I think it's wonderful to look at bad days as bad days and not anything more. We all have them!
Reading is a great escape. It keeps me sane and keeps me from getting bummed out.
Thanks for stopping by my BTT. Happy New Year!

There was a time when I was depressed also, but I am much better, and don't experience it very often now days. I am a bit older than you, but found a few years ago the doctor put me on Caltrate, that is Calcium & Vitamin D3, and I haven't been nearly as depressed in the winter as I was the years before. I'm not encouraging you to go out and buy vitamins, I'm just saying it helped me. I hope you will soon be feeling much better, and began to enjoy life.

Thanks for the visit today.

I have suffered severe depression for a number of years too and you are doing exactly the right thing when you say you treat the bad days as just that - bad days, not bad weeks or the start of a bad spell. The only way I can get through my bad days is to take them literally moment by moment and not to beat myself up too much if I can't manage to string two good moments together.

Reading helps, but that's only when I can concentrate and when I start reading it's a sign the black cloud is lifting. Here's hoping your good days outweigh the bad ones.

All the best to you. Don't focus on the bad days. Just keep your head up and sail through them. Best wishes to you!

Thinking of bad days as being just bad days is a great start to beating odds. May I wish you all the best 2013 and onwards.
