Q: What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.
I don't like dream sequences. I know dreams have importance in our psychological lives and they reveal a lot about what goes on in our heads, but I never liked them in books. They are always boring. I usually find myself skipping those parts. To me, most plot lines work perfectly fine without adding dream sequences, so it just feels like add-on material.

I get what you mean about dream sequences. Although I don't hate dream sequences, they definitely aren't my favorite.

I don't think I've read a bad dream sequence. Sure some of them doesn't always have a point, but there are teeny tiny moments that tend to be awesome to read!

It depends, in Vampire Academy, I liked how they communicated in dreams.

Dreams have to be very important for the book-- otherwise, like you say, it's not worth reading.

Great point with the dream sequences. You can't have any real tension in a dream sequence because, well, it's a *dream*...

Hi!
Thanks for stopping by my blog, new follower here:)
I don't mind dream sequences if they're done right, but I've read a bunch that were boring too.
not sure if I know what you mean, if its a dream where there is dread walking, and communicating, I like that, as its not boring.

Didn't think about that but dream sequences normally annoy me too.

Hmmm I see your point, they can be somewhat pointless. I've always been fascinated by dreams and have come across quite a few series with deeply revealing & significant dreams so maybe I'm biased LOL :) Thanks for sharing and for stopping by my FFF
