Booking Through Thursday

Do you carry books with you when you’re out and about in the world?

And, do you ever try to hide the covers?

I always have a book with me. No matter where I am, I have one in my purse or in my hands. I've even taken books to parties for when the conversation lags.
The only time I've ever hidden a cover was when I was reading a book about ceremonial magick. People tend to look at me like I'm a devil worshipper, so I keep the book under wraps. Silly, and ignorant on their part, but it's better to avoid trouble. There's nothing worse than having to defend your beliefs with a hysterical person.

How about you?

It's a shame that people are so narrow-minded that they judge by what one reads. They don't seem to understand that you can read about something just out of interest and not have a whole-hearted belief in it.

I would have never thought to take a book to a party!! Good idea!

That's not the type of book I'd read, but I think it's ridiculous for people to judge anyone...for anything, especially for the book they read. What's it to them? MYOB people!

I'll admit, I've never taken a book to a party before, but I usually take at least one with me everywhere else. :) It's helped me alleviate boredom when I'm running errands and having to wait for something.

The only cover I would feel the need to hide would be this cover for P.C. Cast's Goddess of the Rose. Are they trying to appeal to female readers here because that cover really isn't appealing even though the story is. That's actually why I haven't bought this book yet since this seems to be the only edition available now. Embarrassing much?

I totally agree with you that people can be really judgemental. At the end of the day you are reading the book, not asking them to read it or even look at the cover. Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

I am kind of the same as you. I usually don't hide covers but I do if its about magic or if its a racy romance novel or a cheesy romance novel. Thats my fave thing about kindle! Privacy!

I've never even CONSIDERED hiding the books I read related to magic...Maybe that's why I get strange looks sometimes! hahah ;)
I normally stick to the hidings of romance novels--I hate when people say stuff about the books I'm reading. Some people assume the novel is gross if the cover is racy!
Great answer ;)
