Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

I dislike sappy, pointless love stories. Whether it's a romance novel or a YA story, I am not fond of romance that comes out of nowhere. I think it's a bit of a cop-out when an author writes one of those scenes where the main character falls head-over-heels in love with someone for no reason other than to enhance the plot. I see it a lot in Young Adult novels and it's very frustrating. I like a bit of build up, tension, that kind of thing, not to go directly to the "I can't live without you!" stage.

Agreed. Just because something is a romance novel doesn't mean that the characters have to be in love with eachother from page 1. Doubly so when it comes to YA fiction. I don't mind a bit of 'history' coming into play to make it easier for characters to get together, but if I also never see any of that happens, it's as bad as insta-love.

Thanks for commenting over on Rywn! :)

Very good point, Valentina. There can be instant attraction, but an instant relationship is a stretch.

Totally agree! there's nothing worse than romance just for the sake of romance. There's no reason for it, and it's often so fake and unbelievable I want to gag! ;)

I wonder if the authors that do that really under stand 'romance'. things that make you say,HMMMM.

I agree with you on the sappy love stories. I wish YA authors would put something a bit more mature and realistic in a love story. New follower! :)

Definitely agree! I'm all for romance, but it has to have structure! I mean people don't always fall in love instantly and have it all mushy like!

I agree! I love romance, but only if it is done in a fairly realistic fashion. I love the tension and drama of a relationship forming and usually avoid the Insta-Love type of books.

Oh, I totally agree! If there's no substance or reason behind their love, it doesn't have a leg to stand on for me either.

Thanks for stopping by my FF! Have a great weekend :-)
