Booking Through Thursday

And–the reverse of last week’s question. Name one book that you hope never, ever, ever gets made into a movie (no matter how good that movie might be).

I would hate to see The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver turned into a movie. No matter how good the director and screen-writer try to make it, so much internal dialogue will be lost that it would be a massacre of the incredible story, and the luscious writing.

Internal dialogue is so hard to translate and voiceovers or narrations can be so boring in film but great in books. Haven't read Poisonwood Bible but I've heard Kingsolver (and this book) mentioned a lot this week so maybe that's a hint to finally pick it up? :)

another book I haven't read! I can only imagine, though. A book's interior life is such a huge part of the book, and so hard to translate.
For example-- the new series about Game of Thrones, is getting some characters across but not others.
Here's my answer.

I 100% agree. I don't see how this could be made into a film without losing so much. All the characters would be completely one dimensional. Adah, especially.

I've never heard of this before but it sounds utterly intriguing. I'm on a book-buying-ban this month, but the library have it, so I'll be borrowing this next. Thanks
