Q: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don’t like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.
I did this with the Dragonlance series by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. I don't usually read a lot of high fantasy, but my sister loved the books and urged me to give them a try. I fell completely head over heels in love with this series, especially the Chronicles and Legends trilogies.
What makes this series stand out, for me, is that although it does take place in a fantasy world, the characterizations are so strong that they make the crazy world-building and plot lines seem plausible. There is definitely a grounding of truth. I suppose that's what good fantasy is all about.

Oh wow! A lot of answers were of the fantasy/sci-fi genre. I guess it's surprising to me because Anne McCaffrey's one of the first authors I fell in love with when I started reading as a little girl.
Glad you branched out because terrific books that build fantastical new worlds and creatures are a part of this genre :0)
Thanks for following me!
I'm a fantasy lover and a fan of the Dragonlance series. They're great books.

I have't read too many fantasy but what got me into it was Harry Potter. To be honest I hadn't thought I would like it. Now I want to read Game of Thrones as well as others.
Thanks for stopping by, following back and Have a great weekend.

I might have to agree a little on that. I haven't read a lot of High Fantasy for awhile until I read Mistborn! Thanks for the follow! New follower!
I don't think the fantasy books I read were high fantasy. Just normal fantasy! ;) But I do love a good fantasy! My paranormal obsession stems from my love of fairy tales!
Here's my Friday Hops
Have a GREAT weekend!

I have to agree a good fantasy book is a book that makes fantasy believable :). Has the Dragonlance series convinced you to give other fantasy books a shot?

Hi Valentina! Following you back on networked blogs! Hmm... I really do need to get out of my comfort zone more. I can't think of a single fantasy book I've read. *shakes head*
Hopping through. I've only read one Dragonlance book. I met Tracy Hickman in 6th grade b/c he came to talk to our class. I went to school with his niece. I should read more of his books.
My Hop
I think that the first (high) fantasy book I read and loved was The Hobbit. Don't know if that qualifies. Someone gave it to me as a Christmas gift and I read it over and over. Love The Hobbit- Hate Lord of the Rings. Never been able to finish the trilogy. I've been struggling over book 2, which is the farthest I've ever gotten in the series. I've been reading it for about 6 months.
I haven't heard of this one yet, but I'll be sure to check it out!
Thanks for stopping by My FF!
Have a great weekend!
Sometimes all those genres are so difficult. Fantasy is not just fantasy, you have High fantasy, dark fantasy etc.. Sometimes I'm not sure what I'm reading :p I'm glad that you liked those books so much! I still need to read them.
