Booking Through Thursday

This week's question:

Up until recently, people could browse your bookshelves and learn a lot about you–what your interests are, your range of topics, favorite authors, how much you read (or at least buy books).

More and more, though, this is changing. People aren’t buying books so much as borrowing them from the library. Or reading them on their e-readers or computers. There’s nothing PHYSICAL on the shelves to tell strangers in your home, for better or worse, who you ARE.

Do you think this is a good thing? Bad? Discuss!

I hate to walk into someone's house and see nothing on shelves except for interior design magazines.
Books are a really good way of getting to know someone, they reveal so much of a person, that I always look as surreptitiously as I can to see what he or she has on bookshelves. Now, of course, with ebooks, things are changing, but in my opinion, not for the better.
Now even for reading people have to rely on technology. Wasn't picking up a book the one thing you could rely on if the power went out?

You are right. When power goes out at least I have a book to read not to be bored. Thanks for stopping by my BTT.

I agree. I think we do rely on technology too much and it's encroaching on books (and I actually do love technology).

I also love to look at peoples bookshelves. Even my sister, who isn't a voracious reader, has a book case filled with art books and one or two fiction.

Yes, that's a good point about power outages...and, because I will never let the physical books go, despite the Kindle I now own, I feel safe.

Here's MY BTT2 POST

we do rely on tecnology too much and i really feel weird saying that, i am 23 and feel thats the most important thing in people my ages lives,
I hate the dark but when we get black outs my book light or a candle are amazing comforts to help me and my book escape.
Ereaders are kind of killing what reading means, i dont really get why they exist other then to save the enviroment (which is a pretty valid cause.) it kinda takes out the whole experiance of reading, sitting with a book is just devine,

now i just babbled all over you blog lol,

Thanks For stopping by,
The Book Mystress, xx

Lol. I love my real life books but I have come to love my kindle too. As long as I get to read my books it doesn't really matter what way I do it.
